About Royal Court Theatre

There are 395 seats available in this theatre built in 1888 and reconstructed in 1952. It serves as an experimental theatre so its popularity wanes at times. Presently it presents small plays which encourage change.

Among famous people which Royal Court has hosted are Laurence Olivier, Alec Guiness, and John Gielgud. Although works by William Shakespeare, John Osborne and George Bernard Shaw have been produced here, other types of presentations have somewhat changed the point of view of this theatre. The movement which came to be known as "Angry Young Men" got its start in this theater.
