About Palace Theatre

Originally named Royal English Opera House when it opened in 1891, the name took a change a year later, becoming the Palace Theatre of Varieties, mostly because opera did not seem to make it in this place.

The building at Cambridge Circus was refurbished in the 1980s so that the original marble finish became visible after 30 years of being painted over. Large lighted billboards were removed, improving the exterior facade of the theatre.

Up to 1400 people can enjoy the productions of the Palace Theatre. Productions in the past have included Jesus Christ Super Star, No No Nanette, The Girlfriend, Les Miserables, and Sound of Music.
