About Noel Coward Theatre (formerly the Albery Theatre)

After seventy years of the name The New Theatre, this theatre was renamed The Albery in 1973 to recognize the Albery family and their involvement in West End Theatres for a century.

During the war, two other theatres suffered considerable damage and moved to The New Theatre and worked there for the next nine years. Among high quality performances in this theatre, the 1960s "Oliver" broke the theatre's record for the greatest number of performances. This theatre had the first production of Noel Coward's play in 1920 as well as the first popular success of John Gielgud for Richard of Bordeaux.

The theatre opened on March 12, 1903, with the production of a play called "Rosemary".
