About New London Theatre

The site of this theatre has a theatrical history. In the middle of the 1800s there was an entertainment venue here called the Middlesex Music Hall. In 1911 it was rebuilt and continued in the tradition of a music hall until 1919 when it was renamed the Winter Garden. The place was not used much in the 1930s but opened for business regularly in 1949 and stayed open until 1959. In 1965, a new building opened and carried the present name. Recently, it has been the domain of a long run of Cats.

Among productions of note are Cats, of course, a performance by Marlene Dietrich, The Unknown Soldier and His Wife, Grease (starring Richard Gere), and Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The theatre served as a television studio for three years before going back into production of musicals.

The theatre presently can seat 1106 patrons on two levels.
