About London Palladium Theatre

There were once telephone lines from box to box in this theatre. They are gone now as is the weekly televised variety show of the 1950s. It has been the site of a circus, a wine bazaar and an ice-skating rink. Since the 1980s this theatre has dealt chiefly with musicals.

Before the present building was rebuilt, Hengler's Circus was at this location. In 1910, the present building was built and called the Palladium. The slight name change occurred in1934.

Among the variety of shows that have come from this venue was the Judy Garland/Liza Minnelli Concert in the 1960s. From 1931 to 1939 a group of comedians had their program here, named Crazy Gang. Among other musicals which have appeared here at Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Showboat, Oliver, Singin' In the Rain, La Cage aux Folles, and the King and I.

Counting all three levels the theatre can seat 2298 patrons.
