About London Coliseum Theatre

The Coliseum Theatre, sometimes referred to as the London Coliseum, has been the home of the English National Opera since 1974, and has a long and dignified history. The theatre opened in 1904 as a variety house.

It had the first revolving stage in Britain and was the first to have lifts to take patrons to the upper levels. As the popularity of vaudeville began to wane, the theatre decided to produce musical comedy in 1931 and continued with this form of entertainment for around thirty years. It had a brief term of being a cinema but later became the featured venue for the English National Opera.

During the thirty years of musical comedy shows, some outstanding shows were presented here. Included in the list of shows are Annie Get Your Gun, Kiss Me Kate, Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls, Can-Can and Bells are Ringing.

2358 seats are available on four levels of this superb theatre. Look for the revolving globe when seeking this theatre on St. Martin's Lane.
