About Gielgud Theatre

Sir John Gielgud, who starred in The Importance of Being Earnest, was honored to have this theatre named after him. It had two other names before, the Hicks and the Globe, but the names did not remain. The theatre is best-known for the mix of comedies and drama that are produced here.

Built in 1906, the theatre was refurbished in 1987 and now has a circular Regency staircase and oval gallery. The design is in the style of Louis XVI as is its neighboring Queen's Theatre.

Among the long-running productions at Gielgud are There's a Girl in My Soup, Daisy Pulls It Off, Lettice and Lovage, An Ideal Husband and Tell Me On a Sunday.

There is seating for 889 patrons in the Gielgud Theatre.
