A256 links the port to Ramsgate in the North. A20, joining the M20 motorway towards south, makes London in the northwest accessible from the port via Maidstone. A2, joining M2, makes the connectivity to London easy as well via Canterbury and Chatham.

The main bus operator in and around Dover is East Kent (Stagecoach Group). National Express operates the routes to London from Dover. Stagecoach Hastings operates the route from Hastings to Dover. P&O Ferries operate the bus service from the Dover Town Centre to Eastern Docks.

Daily ferry crossings from Dover Ferry Port to Calais are with Seafrance and P&O Ferries, to Dunkerque are with Norfolk Line and to Boulogne are with SpeedFerries. Ramsgate ferry, which is about 19.6 miles, offers daily crossings to Ostend with Transeuropa Ferries.
