The small tranquil hamlet of Pennington is located on the lovely Lake District Peninsula, which offers beautiful walking and cycling opportunities. The start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths can be found here, as well as the twin pubs at Great Urswick Tarn, well known in the local area for their great food and fine ales. The market town of Ulverston, also known as the "festival town" because of its lively year round events, is Pennington's nearest neighbour. Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and is the proud home of the one and only Laurel and Hardy museum. The town has many good shops, pubs and restaurants, a leisure centre and a cinema. The soft, sandy beaches and excellent birdwatching of the Furness Coast, and all the attractions of the National Park are easy to get to from here. There is fun for all the family at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Muncaster Castle, and the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

We had a lovely holiday in the Lake District, so much to see and do even if the weather is not the best. We went primarily to climb Scafell Pike and Helvellyn (via Striding Edge!), and to explore the the area. We could not have asked for better accommodation than Thimble Cottage. Set in a lovely quiet area it was a perfect base for our holiday. Everything we required was provided, and we received a warm welcome from the owner. When renting a cottage, for me the most important thing is cleanliness, Thimble Cottage was spotless. I would highly recommend the cottage, another great find via Sykes Cottages!
Mrs Reaney, Bangor, County Down
August 2013

,We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was perfect. It is only a small open plan cottage but for two adults we had everything we needed. Ulverston is a lovely little town only 5-10minutes away by car, and here we spent time shopping, and using the local restaurants and pubs.
Mr Cochrane, York, North Yorkshire
August 2013

,THE ACCOMMODATION WAS EXCELLENT, OF A VERY HIGH STANDARD.THE ADDED BLESSING WE RECEIVED OF A BOTTLE OF WINE, EGGS, MILK, TEA, COFFEE AND SUGAR WERE MUCH APPRECIATED. THE SURROUNDING AREA WAS GREAT AND VERY PEACEFUL. THIMBLE COTTAGE WAS AN IDEAL LOCATION FOR A VERY RELAXING HOLIDAY.
Mr Lawrence, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire
June 2013

,The cottage was the perfect base for our daily visits to the lakes and other venues. It was also very relaxing and quiet.
Mr Clarke, Shrewsbury, Shropshire
May 2013
