Crowther Hall Lock Cottage
This charming Grade II listed 19th century lockkeepers cottage at Pool Quay on the tranquil Montgomery Canal in Mid-Wales, is an ideal base for walking, canoeing, fishing, bird-watching, visiting historic sites, exploring the Welsh Marches and Shropshire borders, or just relaxing.
It is 4 miles from Welshpool, a market town in border farming country - but only ½ mile along the canal towpath from the village pub. Powis Castle and the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway are nearby, with many places of interest an easy drive away.
It provides cosy 3-bedroom accommodation for 4-5 in one double bedroom, a twin bedroom (convertible to kingsize) and a single bedroom - with a shared family bathroom (bath with shower over).
Believed to have been built in about 1850, it has been sympathetically restored to keep its original quarry-tiled floors, exposed beams and Victorian multi-paned windows. It has a logburning stove - but no telephone, television or full central heating, to give you an idea of how life used to be! Approached on foot over a traditional humpback bridge, it has a quiet lockside garden and glorious views over hills, pastureland and the canal, which is a SSI and lies on the Offa's Dyke Walk.
Owing to the location, the cottage is not really suitable for those with mobility difficulties and children must always be supervised. Sorry, no pets allowed.
