UK Car Registrations October 2012
New car registrations in the UK were up by over 12% compared with 2011, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. This upturn brought the total for the month to 151,252 units and is in contrast to a decline in Europe as a whole. It has also led the SMMT to revise is forecast for this year to over two million units, well up on last year's 1.94 million.

More Power And Economy For VW Amarok
Volkswagen has updated the two-litre twin turbo diesel engine fitted to most versions of the Amarok pickup. Previously producing a maximum of 161bhp, it's now rated at a more muscular 178bhp, and although this doesn't make much difference to the 0-62mph time (down by 0.1 to 11.0 seconds) it does lead to an improvement in more relevant areas.

Honda Introduces Small Diesel
A new 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine will start to appear in Honda model ranges from early next year. At first, the 118bhp unit will be fitted, along with a six-speed manual gearbox, to the Civic. Combined fuel economy will be 78.5mpg, while the 94g/km CO2 rating means this version will be exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty and the London congestion charge.

Faster Nissan GT-R Next Year
Nissan's habit of continually tinkering with the GT-R is continuing into the 2013 model year.
