An outstanding archaeological monument which houses a fine art collection, ancient jewellery, delicate porcelain and Roman pottery, which are of national importance. It was originally built by the Normans as a royal palace and became a prison in the 14th century. It has undergone a massive re-vamp with the help of the heritage Lottery Fund.
