This unique fluor spar found only at Castleton is deep within Blue John Cavern and has been mined for centuries. The rare mineral is thought to have got its name from John Kirk and Joseph Hall who worked in the mines during the 18th century, though the Romans were the first to discover Blue John 2,000 years ago.
