Cock, The | Situated on the High Street in the charming market town of Stony Stratford, this historic 15th-century coaching inn offers comfortable en suite accommodation and tasty food.
The Cock became famous in the great age of coach travel, with as many as 100 coaches a day coming into the town. The inn was the official stop for the Manchester Flier, with a 25-minute stop for dinner. Travellers staying at the hotel and at the adjacent Bull inn would compete with each other in telling outrageous tales of the road. It is from this that the famous phrase "a Cock and Bull Story" derives.
A full refurbishment of the bar and dining area has recently completed and guests can enjoy the cosy sofas and warm fire in the Snug Bar.
The 31 en suite rooms have TVs and tea/coffee making facilities, with hairdryers available in some rooms and irons and ironing boards available on request.The hotel serves a range of freshly prepared bar meals and snacks throughout the day in the bar and comfortable snug bar.
We also have a picturesque walled courtyard, which in full bloom, is full of delightful colours.
We are close to Milton Keynes Centre, which houses a shopping centre, a variety of pubs and night clubs, a state-of-the-art theatre, an indoor snowdome, 10-pin bowling alley, ice-skating rink and a large cinema.
Woburn Safari park is around 15 minutes away by car. Towcester is around 7 miles away, and this has quite a few pubs on the main High Street, which usually offer various forms of entertainment. Bicester and Buckingham are about 20 minutes away and both have various shops with different styles and tastes catered for. Bicester Village is located here as well.
