LFF CONNECTS: IAN McEWAN - BFI London Film Festival 2017
Ian McEwan joined us to discuss the different disciplines of writing for the page and the screen and explore why his fiction continues to have such enduring appeal for big screen storytellers in an event hosted by novelist, radio & television presenter, Francine Stock.
One of the greatest modern British writers, Ian McEwan made a name for himself writing dark and gripping novels, often notorious for their extreme themes. His work has also explored the impact of unusual situations on ordinary people and examined how social and political issues determine personal lives. His skill in creating great characters and distinctive narratives has seen many films adapted from his work, including The Cement Garden, Enduring Love, The Comfort of Strangers and the Academy Award-winning Atonement. On Chesil Beach, which he adapted from his own novella, screened at the 2017 BFI London Film Festival.
