Lucia de Lammermoor - Show Information
Lord Henry Ashton of Lammermoor wins a long battle with Edgardo of Ravenswood. Meanwhile, Edgardo and Lord Ashton's sister have fallen madly in love.Loosely based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott, this opera involves a feud between two families, the Ravenswoods and the Ashtons. The Ashton family has taken over the Ravenswood Castle, the home of the Ravenswood ancestors.
In the beginning scene, guards are searching for an intruder into the castle. They believe that the intruder is Edgardo, the last remaining member of the Ravenswood family. He came to see Lucia, a member of the Ashton family. The two have fallen in love.
Lucia's family wants her to marry Arturo, not Edgardo, so an engagement is set. At the wedding ceremony, Lucia is reluctant to sign the marriage contract but does so just before Edgardo enters the hall.
In this opera, expect to find a duel, a suicide and several misrepresentations.
