Burley is perhaps the quintessential New Forest village. Surrounded by an area of true outstanding beauty, it has a long association with witchcraft, dragons and smugglers, all of which make for a fascinating day out. The village still practices the ancient tradition of commoning (where animals are allowed to graze freely in the forest), so be prepared to see horses, cows, donkeys and the occasional pig wandering along the main road. Local deer can also be spotted roaming freely in the woodland surrounding the hotel. Fans of the great outdoors will be in their element, and there are plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and horse-riding. There are many attractions not too far from Burley, such as the Beaulieu Motor Museum, Bucklers Hard, Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World in Romsey, Exbury Gardens and Marwell Wildlife, all of which make for a fantastic day out. Southampton, Winchester and Bournemouth are all just a short drive away as are the beaches at Mudeford and Highcliffe. There’s also the market town of Lymington, where visitors can catch a ferry to the Isle of Wight.
