Stockton International Riverside Festival
Stockton International Riverside Festival is a free five-day visual extravaganza held annually. The astounding show includes circus, street magic, pyrotechnics, aerial artistry and large scale visual images. Over 200 entertainment companies from all over the world give their best to the delight of the stunned crowd. About 500 members of the Stockton community also contribute to the incredible colour and choreography display of the High Street Carnival and Parade. The Fringe Festival complements the event acoustically. Echo and the Bunnymen, Badly Drawn Boy and The Ordinary Boys enthralled the audience in the 2007 edition. Added to all this are the pyrotechnics which simply can't be missed out.
Stockton International Riverside Festival was first held in 1988 and has been, very popular since, attracting huge audiences. Highlights of the SIRF '06 included a spectacular show by Brazilian company, Cico de Madrugada, and the typical Hindi film ambience created by Bollywood Steps, a UK company, Nutkhut. In its 2007 version the companies and theatre groups which mesmerised the audience included an Irish aerial company, Fidget Feet, which performed Remember Her, exploring the connection between creativity and the divine, and a Frankfurt-based company, Antagon, which presented their stilt-based sci-fi fantasy, Time Out.
