Glasgow Art Fair
With the total amount of art purchased in 2008 valued at £1.2m, which included prints, sculptures, photography, ceramics and drawings from more than 46 exhibitor stands, this makes Glasgow Art Fair one of the biggest art fairs in the UK outside London. Over 50 galleries represent a diverse selection of British and international artists. Due to its international appeal, artists from all over the world display their works.
The Glasgow Art Fair was conceptualised at the Glasgow City Council's Year of Visual Arts in 1996 and has rapidly become an annual institution in its own right. A lively symposium on art, where experts in the field as well writers and corporate collectors talked about their approaches to buying, interpreting, making and displaying works, was very popular in the March 2008 Glasgow Art Fair. Visiting Glasgow Art Fair can become a fulfilling experience if one combines the stylish event with the exploration of natural scenery around Scotland. Glasgow also has an amazing collection of museums and galleries such as the contemporary Gallery of Modern Art and the stunning Mackintosh House.
