DescriptionMihai Ritivoiu piano Couperin La Muse Plantine Couperin Le Tic-Toc-Choc Thomas Ades Second Mazurka Chopin Polonaise Fantasie in Ab Op. 61 Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin Couperin's enigmatically titled miniatures are followed by one of Chopin's late works, the Polonaise-Fantaisie, marked by dualities between dance and revery, present and evocation, heroism and intimacy. Thomas Ades' Three Mazurkas are an homage to Chopin, the Second one, with its delicate transparency and intricate ornamentation woven into its whirling melody, also somewhat reminiscent of Couperin's style. Finally, Ravel's Tombeau (here meaning "memorial") honours not only Couperin, but the French Baroque. The movements are each dedicated to friends of the composer who died in the First World War, the work thus becoming a memorial in more than one sense.
