Sale is surrounded by a web of roads out of which the prominent ones are the A56 which connects it to Manchester in the Northeast, M60 which links Sale to Stockport in the east and the A6144 (M), the motorway M61 and the A6053 linking Sale to Bolton which is to the north. To the west is Liverpool and the connecting motorway is M62.

Tram Services Manchester Metrolink which manages the tram network has daily tram links from Sale to Bury, Altrincham, Piccadilly, Victoria and Eccles.

The nearest ferry port is Liverpool Ferry Port which is just 34.3 miles away. The two ferry operators are P&O Ferries and Isle of Mann Steam Packet.
