Transport
The town is bypassed by M6 on the east and by A591 on the west which links it to Windermere and Keswick. A65 connect the town to Kirkby Lonsdale. A6 and M6 links the town to Penrith and Carlisle to the north. A684 links the town to Yorkshire Dales towards east.
Cumberland of Whitehaven is the main bus operator in and around Kendal. Few other bus and coach operators around the town are Apollo 8 (also known as Herd of Lowgill), Kirkby Lonsdale Minicoaches of Carnforth, Woofs of Sedbergh, National Express, Princess Coaches and Robinsons Thomas (also known as Elliott of Appleby).
Heysham Ferry Port is about 27 miles to the south, which offers weekly crossings to Douglas operated by Steam Packet.
