A180 connects to M180 in the west and connects to Scunthorpe. A16 is the road to south linking to Louth. Lincoln which is to the south west of the town is connected by A46.

The nearest ferry port is Kingston upon Hull Ferry Port, which is accessible from Grimsby through roads A180, A15 and A63, by travelling westwards. P&O Ferries operates crossings namely Hull- Zeebrugge and Hull - Rotterdam.
