Bristol and Taunton are to the north of the city which are also connected to Exeter by M5. Exeter and Okehampton are connected via A30.

Plymouth Ferry Port is the nearest ferry port to Exeter which is to the south and is just 40 minutes away by car. Ferry crossings are operated by Brittany Ferries to Santander and Roscoff.
