Glasgow is about 35 miles north-east of Ayr. Ayr, on the West coast, has good links to the rest of Scotland mainly via A79, A77(M77) and A70. The A79 connects the town to Preston and Preston Airport. Ayr by-pass of A77 links the town to Glasgow and Stranraer.

Stagecoach West Scotland (Western Scottish) operates the bus routes to Prestwick, Glasgow and other destinations. Some other bus and coach operators in Ayr are Scottish Citylink, Ayrways Coaches, Smiths Coaches and Fishers Tours. National Express operates a coach service between Ayr and Troon ferry port.

Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, which is about 3 miles from Ayr, offers flights to other European cities. Glasgow Airport offers flights to America and the Middle East as well as Europe.

Troon ferry port terminal is about 11 miles from Ayr. P & O Irish Sea Ferries operate weekly ferry crossings to Larne in Northern Ireland. Pay & Display parking facility for long and short term is available near the ferry terminal.
