Ben Nevis - Kingussie
Ben Nevis is a warm and cosy 100 year old cottage with free wi-fi and is perfect for exploring the Highlands and the Cairngorm National Park. Located in Kingussie, which is a traditional but friendly village which welcomes tourists and has a good selection of shops, a local butcher, pubs and restaurants serving finest Scottish cuisine. Kingussie is just down the road from Aviemore and up from Newtonmore.
The cottage is located on the quiet end of the High Street, and is very well equipped with free wireless internet.
With 3 good pubs and numerous restaurants on your doorstep, you can be sure of a relaxing holiday if you prefer not to cook! But, the village also has a number of shops including a local butcher who farms his own meat, a newspaper shop, and a small supermarket (co-op - open until 10pm) to ensure that your self-catering holiday is easy to manage. There are also a number of take-aways including fish and chips (or haggis and chips!), pizza and Chinese meals.
2 Golf courses (Kingussie and Newtonmore), tennis and the full range of watersports including canoeing, windsurfing, water ski-ing, and ski-ing and snowboarding in season are only the start of the list of activities available locally for adults and children. The local game of shinty is played with Kingussie often top of the league and plays at 'the Dell' - the local home of the shinty club.
Inside the cottage boasts 3 good sized bedrooms (1 double, 1 double with an additional 'pull-out' single bed and 1 single) and 2 bathrooms plus an additional downstairs toilet. A washing machine and tumble drier are provided and the kitchen is well equipped for all of your culinary needs. Hotel quality bed linen and towels are provided and the master bedroom has en-suite facilities. The rear garden has a lawned area and a shed for storing your bikes or skis, and parking is available on the front of the cottage. Full central heating and additional log-effect fires create an easy way to keep warm and cosy even in cooler months. So the cottage is perfect for long or short winter breaks for one or two couples or small groups, as well as for families who want an activity packed summer holiday, and lots of family fun.
The TV series Monarch of the Glen was filmed around Kingussie and there are many landmarks in the village from the series. Adverikie Estate is about 12 miles from Kingussie. You can park in a lay-by across from the Gatehouse and hike back to the 'Big House'. It is about an 8-mile round trip hike but well worth the effort for Monarch of the Glen fans.
There is so much to do in the area that it's hard to fit it all in. There is a full range of outdoor sports including walking, climbing, mountain-biking, white water rafting and ski-ing in season. There are numerous visitor centres including the local Highland Wildlife Park and Highland Folk Museum and further afield Loch Ness.
