Meadow Cottage, The
Scalebeck has four properties to offer, sleeping from 2 to 8 people. All the bedrooms and bathrooms have just been redecorated over the winter and some new furniture added to each property.
Formerly known as "Folly", "The Meadow Cottage" is one of three cottages in the converted hay barn. It shares an entrance via the large double barn doors with the neighbouring "Woodland Cottage". The property is "upside down" with the open-plan living space taking advantage of the high beamed ceiling. The views from the front are across open farmland, usually with sheep or cows in residence.
All guests are free to use the games room (with table tennis and pool table), and shared picnic tables and BBQ in the garden. There is also a coin-operated laundry with washing machine and tumble dryer. Free phone available in the laundry for guest use.
Within the grounds we have separate large grassed areas for outside games and dog walking, a BBQ/patio area and there is an unfenced stream and pond (young children would need supervision). From your cottage you may be able to see deer, hares, red squirrels, and an abundance of birds, including woodpeckers, kingfishers, heron, buzzards and sparrowhawks.
One well-behaved dog is welcome.
Appleby's main industry is tourism, due to its history, remote location, scenery and closeness to the Lake District, the North Pennines, Swaledale and Howgill Fells. It is overlooked by the (privately owned) Appleby Castle, a predominantly Norman structure, which provided the home for Lady Anne Clifford, in the 17th century.
With all there is to do and see within the surrounding area or even just around our cottages, this makes for the perfect place to be as Active or Inactive as you wish. An absolutely sublime getaway from it all.
Kay and Andy are waiting to welcome you to Scalebeck.
