Bodmin itself is abundant with history as it is Cornwall's historic county town which is reflected in what's on offer such as Bodmin Jail, the Courtroom Experience, the town museum, the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry Museum and the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway. The town's parish Church, St Petroc's is the largest in Cornwall and is well worth a visit as well as the many concerts held there throughout the year.

On the outskirts of the town there are two grand country houses, Lanhydrock (National Trust) and the lovely Georgian house of Pencarrow which is still owned and lived in by the same family to this day. For garden lovers there are also some more beautiful gardens in the area such as Pinsla Garden with its interesting sculptures and Northwood Garden at St Neot which is a magnificent four acre water garden featuring ponds, streams, waterfalls, bridges, fountains and a romantic island.

For those who love the great ourdoors, there are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities. Bodmin is the start of the Camel Trail which is a 28 mile cycling track which is almost completely flat! The Saints Way also passes nearby the town and is a coast to coast route from Padstow to Fowey. As well as this Bodmin Moor lies to the north east of Bodmin and is full of rambling walks up the granite tors of this wild landscape. Rough Tor near Camelford is particularly stunning and on a clear day you can see all the way to the north Cornish coast.
