Ghyll, The
Buckden was featured in ITV’s recent series, ‘The Dales’ . Hopefully you did not miss this opportunity to view the stunning scenery surrounding our village. 2014 saw the Tour de France pass right through the village.
Buckden, Upper Wharfedale, is at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales Nat. Pk., surrounded by National Trust land; 10 miles from Grassington (the “capital of Upper Wharfedale”) and less than 20 miles from Skipton (“Gateway to the Dales”).
‘The Ghyll’ is ideally located at the foot of Buckden Ghyll, which flows down from Buckden Pike that overlooks the village. The walled garden is a suntrap to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity offered by the sheep studded hills and hay meadows of the National Trust lands around it, and provides an excellent centre from which to explore the surrounding Dales.
The cottage overlooks the village and meadows leading down to the River Wharfe, along which winds the Dales Way - a long distance footpath. The village itself lies at the foot of Buckden Pike (2300 ft.) which is approached via a Roman Road. There are walks to suit all abilities (including an ‘accessible’ one along the riverside to Hubberholme Church and the George Inn). Whether ambling along beside the river or striding the hills right from the cottage doorstep all paths lead straight into the glorious scenery of the Dales, almost invariably ending at a country pub!
This idyllic location, offering long distance views across and along the Wharfedale, provides high quality accommodation (VisitBritain 4*) and a National Accessibility Scheme rating Level Two, comprising:

Buckden is at the hub of ‘The Dales’ and offers so much to be discovered:
‘West Winds’, a friendly and yummy tea room, is less than 100 yards away, whilst those intent on touring will find the likes of Skipton Castle, Hardraw Force (England’s highest freefall waterfall, near Hawes), Castle Howard and even York are all within easy reach, not to mention the delights of Wharfedale itself.
Wensleydale is just ‘over the tops’" with its ‘Wallace & Grommit’ Cheese Factory at Hawes! Malhamdale, famous for its spectacular (and accessible) Malham Cove. Swaledale, with its field patterns, barns and ‘s’wadle sheep’; Nidderdale, Littondale, Bishopdale, Langstrothdale and more clamour for attention - and all linked by thousands of miles of the limestone dry
