Garden Cottage, The
Scalebeck has four properties to offer, sleeping from 2 to 8 people. All the bedrooms and bathrooms have recently been redecorated and some new furniture added to each property.
The Garden Cottage is part of a 2000 conversion of a 17th century bank barn, and stands alongside the farmhouse within 5 acres of garden, woodland and farmland. The first floor entrance to the open plan living room, dining and kitchen areas allows lovely views of the surrounding country and towards the Pennines. Included in this property are a stone surround living flame gas fire and beams. The bedroom is on the lower floor, and has a super king size 4 poster bed. The bathroom has a power shower over the bath.
Other facilities include: full gas central heating, car park, fixed stairgate with cot and high chair on request; new LED TV with built in free view and DVD, microwave; cycle store and laundry with coin-operated washing machine, tumble dryer and free telephone (since mobile phone coverage is patchy); games room - table tennis and pool table.
Within the grounds we have separate large grassed areas for outside games and dog walking, a BBQ/patio area and there is an unfenced stream and pond (young children would need supervision). From your cottage you may be able to see deer, hares, red squirrels, and an abundance of birds, including woodpeckers, kingfishers, heron, buzzards and sparrowhawks.
One well-behaved dog is welcome.
Appleby's main industry is tourism, due to its history, remote location, scenery and closeness to the Lake District, the North Pennines, Swaledale and Howgill Fells. It is overlooked by the (privately owned) Appleby Castle, a predominantly Norman structure, which provided the home for Lady Anne Clifford, in the 17th century.
With all there is to do and see within the surrounding area or even just around our cottages, this makes for the perfect place to be as active or Inactive as you wish. An absolutely sublime getaway from it all.
Kay and Andy are waiting to welcome you to Scalebeck.
