The Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which dates from 1190 and has a castle keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a wide range of shops, pubs and places to eat. The bustling market town of Leyburn is just a short drive away, offering a variety of great shops and pubs. All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

The cottage was in the most wonderful location with great walks. The church bells and seeing the race horses pass the cottage were lovely. The tea room served lovely cream teas after a long walk, and the village shop had everything that you could want. The local produce or milk, bacon, eggs and meat were a must, and the log burner in the cottage was the icing on the cake. Altogether the best cottage that we have ever stayed in.
Mrs Bailey-Gibson, Chelmsford, Essex
August 2013

,The village was very pleasant and good to explore and especially to have the horses on the doorstep! We found the people very friendly and helpful in both the village and throughout the Dales. We had some very interesting conversations on many occasions.

The scenery was great and there was a good choice of activities in the whole area.
Miss Travers, Bedford, Bedfordshire
June 2013

,Very clean, comfortable and a great bed - had a brilliant nights sleep. We loved the location, log burning stove in sitting room and the spa bath. All in all it was a wonderful break!
Mr Peacock, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
March 2013

,Lovely cosy cottage. Especially loved the wood burning fire and location in the middle of the village.
Mr Cooper, Gateshead, Tyne And Wear
January 2013
