Brooks' View Cottage

Brooks' View Cottage,Bath Information
Romantic rural retreat at historic Tucking Mill with free parking and free wifi If you like the idea of a wood-burning stove, a Victorian claw bath and a large walk-in shower in a newly converted cottage beside the Horsecombe and the Midford Brook, this is the place for you. Only 15 minutes (2.9 miles) from Bath City Centre, yet totally in the country, Brooks View is one of a rank of 4 artisan cottages built alongside the route of the old Somerset Coal Canal, originally the homes of the canal workers. With a delightful double/twin bedroom with a wooden floor upstairs, and a sitting room with sofabed and two club chairs, the cottage is comfortable as well as romantic. Facilities include digital TV, free wifi, washing machine, cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave etc. Bedlinen and towels are of course provided. There is off-road parking. The attractive exclusive garden provides a patio for barbecues and a sitting area beside the brook. You are free to come and go as you please. Views extend over the meadow and down the Midford Brook. Excellent for birdwatching and wildlife spotting (as well as walking, cycling and fishing). The area is handy for the Bath culture and café scene as well as befitting from all the calm of the countryside. Two excellent pubs within easy walking distance. Good area for rural pursuits and cycling. A Welcome Basket containing cereals, teas, coffee, bread, butter marmalade and milk is provided. Facilities are available for bicycle and wet weather storage. Prices start at £98 per night for 2. Additional facilities of a 4 ft sofa bed(min 2 night stay). This is the perfect spot for enjoying the sophisticated city delights of Bath and relaxing afterwards in the rural calm of the Tucking Mill hamlet. You can enjoy cycling along the Colliers Way - Sustrans Route 24, fishing, exploring the area by car or just walking along the brooks : all is on the doorstep. Wildlife spotting might include deer, badgers, otters, mink and many wonderful birds including the rarely seen barn owls. You can even go for a `Hawk Walk' with our resident expert. There are two locally renowned village pubs, the Hope and Anchor at Midford and the Wheelwrights at Monkton Combe, within 10 minutes' walk where excellent meals await. A good venue for visiting not just Bath but the many National Trust properties in the area, Cheddar Gorge, Longleat and even London is only 90 minutes but rail. Tucking Mill is situated on the southern side of Bath, just 15 minutes from Bath City Centre in the historic and beautiful yet little-known Tucking Mill valley. Tucking Mill is within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and was formerly a site of significant historic interest, being the home of William Smith, the Father of English Geology. Even today traces of the Somerset Coal Canal can be seen within the gardens at Tucking Mill. The hamlet lies within 10 minutes' journey of the Universities of Bath and Bath Spa, the MOD, Monkton Combe School and Prior Park School. We regret that the premises are not suitable for the less able or children under 12.

directions
If you are coming by car you should visit the website http://www.bathselfcatering.net for suitable directions and bring these with you as well. Please print these off as some Sat Navs drop you some 200 yards short. Just keep going – the cottages are past the Annexe which is on the road side half way between Midford and Monkton Combe. The Annexe is the first building on the right hand side ¾ miles after leaving Midford and the first on the left if you come from Monkton Combe and is a useful marker. Brooks’ View, No 3 Tucking Mill Cottages (not to be confused with Tucking Mill Cottage on the road-side) is down the drive immediately before the Annexe coming from Monkton Combe or immediately after coming from Midford. Parking is at the bottom of the drive in an allotted place and will be signposted.
