Greenbank View
Greenbank View is quietly set in 9 beautiful acres of the former Aynsome Manor, around the ancient fish-ponds of Cartmel Priory, all now collectively owned and lovingly cared for. To walk around the Park, past old stone cottages, as well as spaciously located other lodges, and from one pond to another, past streams and 18thC follies, a croquet lawn and an orchard, and looking up to Hempsfell, is a real pleasure.
A short walk across the fields or just down the lanes, will take you to the ancient village of Cartmel. In the Southern part of the Lake District National Park, midway between Lake Windermere (4.5 miles)and the coast, walks and places to visit abound. Cartmel is well known for its steeplechase racecourse, old market place and Priory, it has 4 food pubs and 4 restaurants, including L'Enclumé with a Michelin *. The village has a very good web site.. cartmel.com
Our well appointed 4 person, 2 bathroom lodge sits in the centre of its own private garden, with high old stone walls on two sides, and hedges on the others, with lovely views south and west over the hedges past the monkey puzzle trees of the Manor, and across the valley.
There are two bedrooms; the master bedroom has a 5ft double (2000 pocket sprung mattress) and an ensuite shower room. The other has two singles, and is next to the large family bathroom, with a corner bath. The water is pressurised for a good shower and the basins, taps and shower are all new. The well equipped kitchen (incl induction hob) is open onto the dining and sitting area (gas log fire) with fully glazed doors to a stone paved south facing terrace and west garden, where outdoor tables and chairs are provided.New carpets throughout in 2013, and new curtains 2015. The living areas have been repainted in 2016 but at the moment only one photo shows the new look, with rafters now pale grey.
The private garden is on all 4 sides, the 3m high stone walls to north and east protecting damson, apple and pear trees, and other shrubs. The quiet setting may of course be disturbed by the ducks and the distant sound of the bells at Cartmel Priory.
This is a special place, but we regret, we cannot accommodate pets.
