Tyn Cwm
Tyn Cwm (the little house in the valley) is located in West Herefordshire's 'Golden Valley', just 8 miles from the border town of Hay on Wye, famous for its second hand books, quirky shops and Hay Literary Festival. This lovely detached barn conversion, standing on Little Llanafon Farm, lies just outside the charming village of Dorstone.
Set in the farmyard close to the owner's home on a small non-working farm, it offers an excellent base for exploring the beautiful and unspoilt countryside of Herefordshire and the Welsh Borders with its many black and white villages, churches, footpaths and mountains. The Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains are within easy reach, as is the Forest of Dean and the Shropshire Hills.
Tyn Cwm is a former cowshed and was converted to a high standard by the present owners only a few years ago. The cottage is arranged all on one level providing easy access to all its amenities, and is comfortably furnished to sleep four people. A cot is available on request. The entire cottage is centrally heated with the bonus of a woodburning stove with plenty of logs supplied.
The central living space measures a huge 10m x 4m (33ft x 13ft), and includes open plan sitting, dining and kitchen areas so whether you are cooking, eating or relaxing, no one gets left out! Retaining many of the original features, this room has some lovely exposed beams and a woodburning stove.
Tyn Cwm offers one large double bedroom with en-suite WC and shower room, full length mirror and french doors to the patio. The twin bedroom, formerly a pigsty, is situated at the opposite end of the building with windows to front and rear. The separate roomy bathroom has a shower over the bath. All towels and linen are provided.
The farmyard offers parking for several cars at the front of the property, whilst a private patio area at the rear opens onto the adjacent private orchard with it's resident chickens. Secure bike storage is available.
Tyn Cwm is a well equipped and comfortable base for exploring this lovely area. Walking and birdwatching are popular, and there are many more active pursuits available nearby including canoeing, rock climbing, cycling and pony trekking. Fishing permits are available on the River Wye just 2 miles away, and there are sports centres and swimming pool in the cathedral city of Hereford (15m).
The area also has a superb selection of pubs, restaurants and take-aways. Hay on Wye and Hereford have excellent supermarkets, and the nearest village shop, Post Office and doctors is just 2½ miles away in Peterchurch.
