Farmhouse, The
Scalebeck has four properties to offer, sleeping from 2 to 8 people. All the bedrooms and bathrooms have just been redecorated over the winter and some new furniture added to each property.
The 17th Century Farmhouse stands within 5 acres of gardens, woodland and farmland in beautiful Eden Valley. The farmhouse has some original features including the the 'fire window' in the sitting room, some beams, low doorways, and sloping walls.
Downstairs, there is a large kitchen, dining room and sitting room (both with wood burners) and a sun room with views across the garden and to farmland beyond. There is also a downstairs toilet and shower.
Upstairs are 4 bedrooms sleeping a total of 8 people (2 double rooms, a single and a triple room). There is also the family bathroom with shower over the bath.
Other facilities include: full gas central heating, car park, cot and high chair on request, 2 colour TV/ DVDs, ipod docks, microwave. There is also a cycle store and laundry with coin-operated washing machine, tumble dryer and telephone plus a games room with table tennis and a pool table.
Within the grounds we have separate large grassed areas for outside games and dog walking, a BBQ/patio area and there is an unfenced stream and pond. (This may make the property unsuitable for small children). From your cottage you should be able to see deer, rabbits, hares, red squirrels, and an abundance of birds, including woodpeckers, kingfishers, heron, buzzards and sparrowhawks.
Two well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Appleby's main industry is tourism, due to its history, remote location, scenery and closeness to the Lake District, the North Pennines, Swaledale and Howgill Fells. It is overlooked by the (privately owned) Appleby Castle, a predominantly Norman structure, which provided the home for Lady Anne Clifford, in the 17th century.
With all there is to do and see within the surrounding area or even just around our cottages, this makes for the perfect place to be as Active or Inactive as you wish. An absolutely sublime getaway from it all.
Kay and Andy are waiting to welcome you to Scalebeck.
