On the Rocks
In 2003, writer-director Sofia Coppola guided Bill Murray to his first Oscar nomination for a revelatory performance as a love-starved American movie star in the wistful and beguiling romance Lost In Translation. They reunite for On The Rocks, a humorous portrait of affairs of the heart seen through the eyes of a father and daughter played by Murray and Rashida Jones. Mother-of-two Laura (Jones) is a writer with a creative block, who is convinced that her high-flying husband Dean (Marlon Wayans) is having an affair. She has no concrete evidence just a nagging suspicion that he is sleeping with a co-worker. Laura seeks counsel from her art dealer father Felix (Murray), an inveterate womaniser who knows a thing or two about the art of seduction. He suggests the best course of action would be to spy on Dean as he travels to a business meeting in New York City and catch the husband in the act of betrayal. Choosing a red Alfa Romeo convertible as their inconspicuous mode of transport, Laura and Felix begin their covert surveillance.
