Andre Rieu: Magical Maastricht
In 2005, Dutch violinist and conductor Andre Rieu staged a series of open-air concerts in the Vrijthof in Maastricht in the Netherlands, establishing an annual tradition which has been recorded for broadcast in cinemas around the world. To mark 15 years of these hometown concerts, director Michael Wiseman presents a compilation of favourite moments featuring the King of Waltz, the 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra, invited sopranos, tenors and famous guest artists. The popular and classical music is complemented by light shows and spectacular fireworks, building to a rousing crescendo. Exclusively for cinema audiences, Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins interviews Rieu about how his life has changed during the Covid pandemic as a father and grandfather, and hopes for the future with his conductor's baton.
