La Dolce Vita
As part of the BFI's year-long celebration to mark the centenary of the birth of director Federico Fellini, a sparkling 4K restoration of La Dolce Vita screens in selected cinemas in the film's 60th anniversary year. The Palme d'Or-winning cautionary tale follows the escapades of gossip columnist Marcello (Marcello Mastroianni) as he patrols the streets, bars and nightclubs of Rome, in search of salacious stories about the city's rich and famous. One of his targets is Swedish-American film star Sylvia Rank (Anita Ekberg) and in an iconic scene, she frolics in the Trevi Fountain at dawn. La Dolce Vita introduced the world to the term "paparazzo" to describe a tenacious celebrity photographer, who will stop at nothing to get an exclusive snapshot.
