Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché

Born in Saint-Mande, Alice Guy entered the filmmaking business in 1894 at the age of 21. Two years later, she was promoted to head of production at Gaumont and began directing, including La Fee aux Choux, which is considered the world's first narrative film. In 1907, she married Herbert Blache and moved to America, where she founded her own studio, The Solax Company, in Flushing. The couple moved to a bigger facility in New Jersey and Alice put her name to around 1000 films. Her career ended abruptly in 1919 and the name Alice Guy-Blache was largely erased from the annals of the moving image. Narrated by Jodie Foster, Pamela B Green's documentary delves into the personal history of a creative trailblazer, who has been largely forgotten. The film unearths the circumstances of her fall from grace and aims to reclaim Guy-Blache's place in the Hollywood firmament.
