Run-of-the-mill full-length animation which takes on Russian history (the story of the last tsarina and her quest to find her estranged family) and sprinkles it with more than a little artistic licence. A starry array of Hollywood names (Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Christopher Lloyd) provide the voices, and while the film-makers have clearly followed the Disney template (songs, cute animal sidekicks, menacing yet comical villain) the finished product is nowhere near as polished. The songs are, however, a minor triumph including the infuriatingly catchy "Journey To The Past" and "Once Upon A December".
