Ip Man 4
Released in 2009, Wilson Yip's acclaimed biographical drama Ip Man charted the fortunes of the eponymous martial arts master (Donnie Yen), who fought enemy soldiers in the ring during the 1930s Japanese occupation of China for the amusement of their commander Miura (Hiroyuki Ikeuchi). Ten years later, the story comes full circle with the concluding chapter, which reunites director Yip with his charismatic leading man. Ip Man (Yen) arrives in San Francisco to reunite with his student Bruce Lee (Danny Chan), who is causing ructions by opening a kung fu school. The martial arts master is dismayed to find that the Chinese are treated as second class citizens by the Americans and this racial discrimination is threatening to tear apart the delicate fabric of his country's culture. In the face of extreme provocation from bullying military commander Barton Geddes (Scott Adkins), Ip Man resolves to heal wounds between different factions by reaffirming the beauty and devastating power of traditional fighting techniques.
