Atlantics (Atlantique)
Souleiman (Ibrahima Traore) is among a group of construction workers, who have toiled tirelessly on a hulking tower on the outskirts of Dakar. Unpaid for months by businessman Mr N'Diaye (Diankou Sembene), Souleiman decides to head to Spain in an open boat in the hope that he can earn a decent and honest living in Europe. The voyage ends in tragedy and women back in Dakar are consumed with grief. Seventeen-year-old Ada (Mama Sane) secretly mourns Souleiman. She was his lover but is betrothed to Omar (Babacar Sylla), who harks from wealthy stock and will guarantee her a stable future. Following the nuptials, Ada's bridal bed is torched and young policeman Issa (Amadou Mbow) is assigned to the case. He searches for clues about the arsonist, blissfully unaware that the tormented spirits of the unpaid workers have returned to Dakar. Many of these ghosts intend to wreak revenge on Mr N'Diaye but Souleiman wishes only to reunite with Ada one final time, to remind her of the unbreakable bond they shared.
