Tommy

Almost 45 years after it first stomped onto the big screen, The Who's psychedelic rock opera directed by Ken Russell returns to selected cinemas. Tommy (Barry Winch) grows up without his father Captain Walker (Robert Powell), a bomber pilot in the Second World War, who was apparently shot down and killed in action. The boy is raised by mother Nora (Ann-Margret) and her new beau Frank (Oliver Reed). Late one night, a badly burnt Captain Walker returns to reclaim his family and a violent struggle ensues. Tommy witnesses the aftermath and is rendered mute. As Tommy grows up (now played by Roger Daltrey), he remains in a catatonic state until he discovers his calling and voice playing on a gaming machine against the flamboyant Pinball Wizard (Elton John).
