The Captain
Andrew Lau directs a stirring dramatisation of a real-life story of courage 30,000 feet above terra firma based on a script written by Yu Yonggan. Former Air Force pilot Captain Changjian Liu (Zhang Hanyu) proudly serves passengers of Sichuan Airlines and on the morning of May 14, 2008, he takes charge of a routine flight from Chongqing to Lhasa. High above the Tibetan Plateau, the aircraft suffers a catastrophic failure: the windshields shatters and the co-pilot is sucked partially out of the cockpit. As passengers begin to lose consciousness, Liu has to call upon all of his years of flying experience to guide the plane to the nearest airport: Shuangliu in Chengdu. Behind him in the cabin, in-flight service manager Nan Bi (Yuan Quan) attempts to calm passengers and the rest of the crew while Captain Liu attempts his daring manoeuvres.
