Mystify: Michael Hutchence
On November 22, 1997, Michael Hutchence, lead singer of Australian rock band INXS, was found dead in a hotel room in Sydney. He was 37. It was a desperately sad end for an emotionally complex showman, who spent almost 20 years in the spotlight, sending female fans into a frenzy with his sexually charged live performances. Documentary filmmaker Richard Lowenstein is granted access to Hutchence's private home movies and other rare footage to chart the rise of the musician, including intimate archive images of Kylie Minogue and Paula Yates with the singer. Interviews with friends, family and lovers build up a vivid portrait of the shy man behind the swaggering stage persona, exploring the violent event that changed Hutchence's life forever and strained some personal relationships to breaking point.
