Non-Fiction (Doubles vies)

Writer-director Olivier Assayas contemplates the future of literature in a fast-moving digital age in a French drama co-starring Juliette Binoche and Guillaume Canet. Alain (Canet) is chief editor at one of France's most revered publishing houses with a long tradition of championing the country's most exciting new voices. He takes a meeting with author Leonard (Vincent Macaigne) and delivers the disappointing news that Leonard's latest manuscript won't be published under his banner. Leonard is crestfallen and commiserates with wife Valerie (Nora Hamzawi), who is too busy masterminding the political campaign of a Socialist candidate to worry about her husband's crippling self-doubt. Meanwhile, Alain's actress wife Selena (Binoche) grows convinced that Alain is having an affair with his firm's digital manager, Laure (Christa Theret), who is masterminding the company's painful transition into the lucrative e-books market. Marital woes impact on her decision to sign on for another year of police procedural TV drama Collusion.
