Re-release of Billy Wilder's 1950 film noir, in a spectacular new print, starring Gloria Swanson in her most celebrated role as fading big screen star Norma Desmond, who is gifted one of the most famous closing speeches in cinema history: "There's nothing else. Just us, and the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark. All right, Mr De Mille, I'm ready for my close-up." The film explores Norma's insatiable appetite for fame and fortune, and her relationships with her toy boy lover (William Holden) and her faithful man servant Max (Erich Von Stroheim). When Holden's screenwriter dares to tell her, "You used to be big", she retorts with the classic one-liner, "I am big. It's the pictures that got small."
