Transit
Adapted from the 1944 novel penned by Anna Seghers, Transit is a beguiling love story, which eschews the book's Second World War setting for an ambiguous timeframe. Georg (Franz Rogowski) flees German-occupied Paris for the port of Marseilles. He has visa papers in his possession from a writer named Weidel, who committed suicide. Georg intends to impersonate the dead man to secure safe passage to Mexico. A boat leaves Marseilles in three weeks so Georg must pretend to be Weidel and raise enough money for a ticket. As he conducts his double life in a city festooned with refugees, Georg meets a beautiful woman called Marie (Paula Beer) and falls under her spell. He is blissfully unaware of her deep personal connection to the mysterious Weidel.
