Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth
Thirty-year-old Freddy yearns to be a parent but his path to becoming a father is littered with obstacles. He is a gay transgender man and the prospect of carrying his own baby challenges society's preconceptions of gender roles and the genetic make-up of a family. Over the course of three years, documentary filmmaker Jeanie Finlay is granted unprecedented access to Freddy and his loved ones as he prepares to conceive and gives birth. Shot against a backdrop of increasing hostility towards trans people, the film explores how Freddy acknowledges his own naivete as his decision creates confusion and deep division at the very moment he needs friends and family to rally around him.
