Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Penny Lane travels to Salem, Massachusetts, to meet members of the Satanic Temple. Founded in 2013, this media-savvy group uses attention-grabbing stunts to advocate religious freedom and remind the public that America is a secular country. To achieve this goal, the religious movement insists that wherever a statue of the 10 commandments is installed, a statue of the demon Baphomet should be erected as well to avoid accusations of Christian bias. Lane's film goes behind the sensationalist news reporting to put the temple's quest for equality under the microscope and give a voice to a group, which uses satanic imagery but does not advocate a belief in Satan.
